July 1 2019 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the California City Whiptails 14-1, using a 10-hit attack and a strong pitching performance from Kyle Hodgson. High Desert broke open a scoreless game with six runs in the second inning, added a run in the third and pulled away with four more in the sixth. The Yardbirds also scored once in the eighth and twice in the ninth.
Anthony Ward led High Desert with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored. D. Reddy drove in four runs and homered, while Dillon Fahr had one hit, two RBI and a home run. Slayton Vaughan also homered and drove in a run, and Hector Morales collected two hits and one RBI. Oscar Larranaga added a home run, and the Yardbirds finished with four homers overall. High Desert committed one error.
Hodgson earned the win after allowing five hits and one earned run in eight innings. He walked one and struck out six while facing 30 batters. Nate Doiron worked a scoreless ninth, allowing one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
Jesus Salcedo accounted for California Citys lone run with a home run and finished with the Whiptails only RBI. California City managed six hits and committed one error. Trevor Wick took the loss after surrendering six hits and nine runs, eight earned, in five innings, with five walks and three strikeouts.
