July 21 2017 The Tucson Saguaros defeated the California City Whiptails 5-4 at Balsitis Park. Tucson finished with seven hits and two errors while California City collected 11 hits and committed one error.
Tucson scored twice in the first inning, added another run in the third and broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the ninth. California City scored once in the second, once in the third and twice in the fifth but was held scoreless over the final four innings.
Cody Den Beste led Tucson with three hits and one RBI. Nicholas Vitale added two hits and an RBI, while Tre Porter doubled, scored twice and drove in a run. Fernando Garza and Porter each scored in the opening inning, and Tucson turned three double plays.
Jonathon Tasis and Manny Colon each had two hits for California City. Maikel Serrano drove in two runs and Tommy Haas added one RBI. Josh Freeman pitched six innings for Tucson, allowing nine hits and four runs with five strikeouts. Redmond Floyd earned the win with a scoreless seventh inning, and Garrett Baker recorded the save after a scoreless ninth. Emilio Griego worked five innings for the Whiptails, while James Touhey threw three scoreless innings before Aldo Ferrante took the loss.
