July 15 2017 The California City Whiptails defeated the Hollywood Stars 20-0, combining 24 hits with a dominant pitching performance. California City scored in each of the first five innings, including a decisive 11-run fifth, and finished with a 20-0 advantage in runs. Both teams were charged with no errors.
Juandy Mendoza went 4-for-5 with four runs and four RBI for California City. Austin Marcellus also collected four hits and drove in five runs, while Tino Mention went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI and a home run. Jason Wilcoxson added four hits, and Jonathon Tasis hit a home run, scored twice and finished with two hits and three RBI. The Whiptails hit four home runs overall, with Mendoza and Marcellus also going deep.
Johnathon Tripp earned the win after allowing three hits and no runs over six innings while striking out seven and walking two. Tommy Haas followed with two scoreless innings, and Shane Castro completed the shutout with a hitless ninth. Hollywood starter Joe Watson took the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits in three innings, while Guillermo Amezquita surrendered 15 runs on 16 hits over four innings.
