July 9 2017 The Tucson Saguaros defeated the California City Whiptails 8-4 after collecting 13 hits and scoring in three innings. Tucson erased California City’s early 1-0 lead with four runs in the second inning, added another in the fourth and scored three more in the seventh to take control. California City scored three times in the eighth but could not complete the comeback.
Thomas McKenna went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a walk for Tucson. Logan Coughlin added two hits and a home run with one RBI, while Sal Palumbo homered and drove in one run. Kevin Baron, David Kimbrough and Burnell Dailey each collected two hits, with Dailey scoring twice. California City received two hits from Stetson and two hits from pitcher Tommy Haas, while Robert De La Hoz hit a home run and finished with one RBI.
Josh Freeman earned the win for Tucson after allowing seven hits and four earned runs in 7.1 innings. He struck out eight and walked one. Redmond Floyd and Zack Gonzalez combined to finish the game with 1.2 scoreless innings. Haas took the loss for California City after surrendering 11 hits and eight earned runs in 6.1 innings, with three walks and two strikeouts.
