July 3 2017 The Hollywood Stars defeated the California City Whiptails 17-12 in a high-scoring game at Balsitis Park. Hollywood collected 15 hits and scored in six innings while California City finished with 17 hits. The Stars committed four errors compared with one for the Whiptails.
Hollywood took an early lead with five runs in the third inning and added two in the fifth. The Stars then scored five times in the sixth to move ahead 13-10 after California City answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Hollywood added one run in the eighth and three in the ninth to secure the victory.
Ian Horne went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI for Hollywood. Jacob Woehler added two hits and drove in five runs, while AJ Bennett went 3-for-6 with two RBI. Hollywood also hit four home runs, with Woehler hitting two and Mark Demko and Christopher Scalisi each hitting one.
California City was led by Juandy Mendoza, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI, and Maikel Serrano, who had three hits and two RBI. Stetson had three hits, three runs and three RBI while hitting two home runs. Tino Mention also homered and finished with two hits and one RBI.
Nick Carrell earned the win for Hollywood after allowing 10 hits and eight earned runs in 5.2 innings, with one strikeout and five walks. Javier Taylor took the loss for California City, surrendering nine hits and 11 earned runs in 5.1 innings while striking out five and walking six.
