June 19 2017 The California City Whiptails scored six runs in the sixth inning and three more in the eighth to defeat the Hollywood Stars 11-3. California City collected 16 hits and overcame a 3-3 game after five innings, while Hollywood finished with seven hits and one error.
Manny Colon went 3-for-4 with two runs, three RBI and a home run for the Whiptails. Jason Wilcoxson also homered and finished 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Shane Castro added three hits and two RBI, while Austin Marcellus and Steven Longo each had two hits and an RBI. California City recorded four doubles and two home runs in the game.
Elvin Jorge earned the win after allowing five hits and two runs over six innings. He struck out six and walked three. Billy Roth worked the final three innings for the save, giving up two hits and one run while striking out one. Hollywood starter Colton Draney took the loss after allowing six hits and four earned runs in five innings with eight strikeouts.
Hollywood scored twice in the sixth to briefly tie the game at 3-3, but California City answered with six runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 9-3 lead. The Whiptails added three runs in the eighth, and Roth held the Stars scoreless in the ninth to complete the victory.
