June 4 2017 The California City Whiptails rallied for a 6-4 victory over the Bakersfield Train Robbers. California City collected six hits and overcame a seven-hit performance by Bakersfield, which committed no errors while the Whiptails were charged with two errors.
Jason Wilcoxson powered the Whiptails with two home runs and four RBI, going 2-for-4. Robert De La Hoz added a hit and an RBI, while Austin Marcellus scored once and Tino Mention had a hit and two stolen bases. Bakersfield received two hits from Rupert Watson, while Austin Hoffman and J. Anderson each homered and drove in a run.
California City scored once in the first inning and again in the third before breaking a 3-3 game open with three runs in the seventh. The Whiptails added another run in the eighth, and Bakersfield scored once in the ninth but could not complete the comeback.
Orby Tavares earned the win after allowing six hits and three earned runs in seven innings with three walks and eight strikeouts. Will Gerhard pitched a scoreless eighth, and Darrell Allen recorded the save despite allowing one hit and one unearned run in the ninth. Bakersfield starter Scot Hoffman took the loss after striking out 11 and allowing two earned runs on four hits in six innings.
