July 26 2019 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the California City Whiptails 20-5, collecting 25 hits while committing no errors. California City finished with 10 hits and one error in the high-scoring game.
High Desert took control with five runs in the first inning and three more in the second to build an 8-1 lead. The Yardbirds added three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, three in the seventh and five in the ninth. California City scored once in the first and third innings and three times in the fourth, but did not score after that.
Daniel Anciso led the Yardbirds with four hits and five RBI in six at-bats.
Anthony Ward went 4-for-6 with three RBI, while
Oscar Larranaga had three hits and three runs scored.
Slayton Vaughan added two hits and an RBI, and
Hector Morales hit a home run and drove in three runs. Ward, Anciso and
Harry Ferguson also homered for High Desert. For California City, K. Wagner had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBI, while
Tyler England collected two hits and two RBI.
Ferguson earned the victory after allowing 10 hits and five earned runs in seven innings, striking out six and walking four.
Joey Macaluso finished with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts.
Nick Escolera took the loss for California City after surrendering 19 hits and 12 runs, 11 earned, in 5.1 innings.
