Monterey Amberjacks Roll Past California City Whiptails 13-4

July 24 2019 The Monterey Amberjacks defeated the California City Whiptails 13-4 at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Monterey broke open the game with six runs in the second inning and six more in the third, building a 12-2 advantage. The Amberjacks added another run in the sixth, while California scored once in the sixth and once in the seventh.

Steven Longo led Monterey’s 10-hit attack by going 3-for-5 with three runs and four RBI. He also hit two home runs. Austin Marcellus went 2-for-2 with two runs and four RBI, including a home run, while Dylan Laudano added two RBI. Monterey also received two hits from Marcellus and one each from Morgan Blatnik, James Prockish, Rory Graf-Brennan and Eric Olivo.

Daniel Taggart earned the win after working all seven innings. He allowed four hits and four runs, only one of them earned, while walking three and striking out 10. Scott Bigelow took the loss for California after allowing six runs on three hits and five walks in 1.2 innings. The Whiptails finished with four hits and committed three errors, while Monterey had one error.
